Kindergarten 3: Projektplanung

Kindergarten 3: Project planning

The architecture

★ The third kindergarten is being built in Kebele 2 – the only one of three districts that does not yet house a facility “from us”. The exact location: 10°03’20.7 “N 39°00’10.3 “E.

★ The city of Alem Katema has provided the area on a slight slope in the size of 3,000 square meters.

★ The kindergarten is planned to be six-stream, based on demand, with an ensemble of four building volumes totaling approximately 440 square meters, planned to fit the slope with as little earth movement as possible.

★ The main building with 6 classrooms of square meters each, the teachers’ building with office, staff room and a storehouse with a total of about 60 square meters, a guard’s house with additional cleaning room with 8 square meters – as well as a separate toilet building separately for teachers, boys and girls.

★ The design and construction methods are based on local conditions and attempt to use local resources and opportunities as much as possible. The brick construction method is adapted to the brick produced in Alem Katema and builds on its brick dimensions. Alternatively, the building can be constructed just as economically using earthen construction methods. The roof truss can be made by local metal workers with the knowledge that welding is difficult to do on site due to fluctuations in the power grid. The roofing is planned with common metal trapezoidal sheets as a monopitch roof, so again the fabrication is simple, economical and without connection issues – and again sources of errors.

★ As a special feature, rainwater is collected and used for the toilet building located at the lowest point of the site. An additional outdoor classroom in the middle of the six-room main building allows variable teaching and offers, among other things, as an additional area best conditions for inclusion.

The pedagogy & more …

★ One group for children with disabilities at each kindergarten site.

★ Qualified training of long-time and new kindergarten teachers in theory and practice.

★ Additional qualifications for other staff: guards, cleaners, etc.

★ Raise awareness of inclusion in the administrative framework (city, county) and society.
